N-Ethyl-N-(2-hydroxy-3-sulfopropyl)-3-methoxyanilin-natriumsalz-dihydrat ist ein diagnostisches Mittel, das zur Diagnose von Säuglingen mit angeborener Nebennierenhyperplasie (CAH) verwendet wird. CAH ist eine Gruppe autosomal-rezessiver Erkrankungen, die auf einen Enzymmangel in der Nebenniere zurückzuführen sind. Dies kann durch Messung der Konzentration von 17-Hydroxypregnenolon, der Vorstufe von Cortisol und anderen Hormonen, diagnostiziert werden. In diesem Test wird N-Ethyl-N-(2-hydroxy-3-sulfopropyl)-3-methoxyanilin-Natriumsalz-Dihydrat verwendet, um die Umwandlung von 17-Hydroxypregnenolon in Cortisol zu hemmen. Es wurde gezeigt, dass dieser Test eine Sensitivität und Spezifität von 98 % bzw. 100 % aufweist.
